Fellow Houstonians, do you need a vacation? Is your workaday life getting boring and stale? Well, let AskRecy treat you to a vacation ... first you have to close your eyes and pretend - no, don't pretend that you're going far away! Pretend that you've never been to Houston before. Let's say that you're just in town for the weekend - now, where would you go?
Most people never visit their local tourist attractions! Have you ever been on the tour of NASA or Space Center Houston? How about a Houston Comets game? When was the last time you went to Hermann Park and enjoyed the zoo? How about the Planetarium and the Natural Science Museum?
The thing is, when people go on vacation, they splurge a little to see all the interesting sights and sample the best of local food and drink. That makes those dazzling big cities seem like exciting places, but Houston can be an exciting place, too. Maybe you should go to an event in the Theater District and take a horse & buggy ride through Downtown at night. Why let the tourists have all the fun? Does a day at the racetrack excite you? How about a ride in a hot-air balloon with champagne? All of these things are available in boring old Houston.
If you want to see a beautiful view, try a Sunday brunch at the Warwick Hotel, overlooking the Park and Rice University. If you went to Paris or Rome, you'd go to the art museums, wouldn't you? So, why not stop in the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston and see what you're missing?
You don't even have to spend a lot of money on entertainment ... the Transco Waterwall behind the Galleria is a beautiful sightseeing spot that's free; and the Galleria itself is still one of the most beautiful spots to watch the ice-skaters, window shop and enjoy a drink at a cafe overlooking the rink. Bayou Place downtown is an excellent place to see a show, enjoy a cafe, and enjoy the free Party on the Plaza Thursday nights.
Most of us never play tourist until we have out-of-town visitors to entertain, but there's plenty of reason to get out and enjoy it all. Maybe the best reason is that the money you spend supports your community and your neighbors ... and think of what you'll save on flights and hotels!
