This week I am handing over the column to my webmaster, Aussie Meyer, to speak her piece -

I watched the fireworks of Sky Power II from a friend's porch this weekend, and listened to the simulcast on the radio. Did you notice the selection of music, how it went with the fireworks, how each one had some special meaning? I guess I noticed it first when the red, white and green fireworks went off over "Biddi Biddi Bom Bom" - the colors of Mexico's flag for Selena: that was neat.
Followed by some Country, wasn't it "God Bless Texas"? Before, I had thought the radio music was unrelated. What had played before Selena? I remembered - it was "Respect" by Aretha Franklin. What special meaning did that soul classic have to the celebration, the Power of Houston? Hmm... Houston .... "Respect".
Suddenly I realized that maybe it was me that caused that song to be selected. No, I'm not crazy. I maintain another website that is a popular Houston web-guide, and I have always kept one article, a signature piece titled, No Respect, featured on the front page. I find that Houston people always understand that article, because it's about how the city never gets the respect it deserves.
Maybe the person who selected the music for the Sky Power II read that article and remembered it, or talked to someone who had read it and thought about the subject. Maybe that's why we got to hear Aretha spell out "R-E-S-P-E-C-T" as we watched the Power of Houston fireworks. I like to think so, anyway. It gives me a good feeling to think that somebody's listening and getting my message loud and clear.
Hope you enjoyed the fireworks show as much as I did!
