Do you know..?

Do you know that one of the best ways to protect yourself from a computer virus is simply to pop the diskette out of the diskette drive when you're through using it? This won't protect you from all viruses - you should have some good anti-virus software on your system - but it does protect you from a common, hard-to-get-rid-of virus that infects your system when you boot up your system from an infected diskette. You don't intend to boot up from the diskette, but your system automatically tries to, if a power outtage comes along, and that's when the virus infects the boot sector.

Do you know what to do when "Error 404 - File Not Found" appears instead of the webpage you were trying to access? One thing you can do is strip off part of the URL or web address - delete a piece of the http:// address from the right side, going back to the slash mark, and enter the new shorter web address to see if you can find the front page of the website that the document was on. They may just have renamed or moved the page to a new location.

Do you know that you can view your bookmarks or favorites as a webpage? For Netscape, the file is named "bookmark.htm" and for Internet Explorer, the file is named "favorite.htm". You can use file open from your browser to view them. If your bookmarks are getting out of hand, you can save them as "bookmk01.htm" and start over. Then open the "bookmk01.htm" file and bookmark the location as your first new bookmark. You might even want to send your bookmarks file to a friend.
