People in Houston will be lighting up with smiles this Thanksgiving over special holiday events around town. Bank United is sponsoring the traditional Thanksgiving Day Parade down Main Street at 9 am Thanksgiving Day. You can catch a sneak preview of the floats at the George R. Brown Convention Center on Tuesday. Channel 11 will be showing the parade if you are busy cooking up a storm, with special guest Doug E. Doug from the Cosby Show.
On Thanksgiving evening, the Galleria area will be having their annual Uptown Lighting Ceremony on Post Oak, with an Electric Light parade, fireworks, and a V.I.P. guest from the North Pole arriving by helicopter. The Uptown/Galleria area is fantastic looking when they pull that switch to light it up for the holidays, if you don't make the ceremony, be sure to drive down there some evening just to get an eyeful. Events run from 4:00 to 8:30, but look for the lights to come on around 7 pm.
Galveston is getting ready, too, with the 2nd annual Tree Lighting Spectacular Friday evening at 53rd & Seawall. Fireworks, music, and Project Bandaloop sky-dancing on the San Luis Hotel will make it a memorable event. On Saturday at 6 pm, the Galveston Harbor Parade of Lights can be seen in the Pier 21 area (that's just above the Strand district for you visitors). Remember that Dickens on the Strand is coming up December 4-6, too. Wear a Victorian costume for free admission to this popular event.
AskRecy wishes you and your family a happy Thanksgiving holiday!
