One of Ask Recy's best Quote of the Day's is one from Maurice Chevalier: "Old age is not so bad when you consider the alternatives." It's funny how many of our complaints turn out to be blessings when we consider the alternatives.
Have you ever heard a couple of fellows swapping stories about how much money their wives spend? They act like they're complaining, but what they're really doing is bragging about how much they have.
"Too much work!" is one of those problems that I'm happy to have. Even if work didn't put money in the bank, having no work is too boring. "Too many customers to please!" - it beats the heck out of not having enough - If someone's depending on you, be glad that you're such a valuable person.
When you have to do home repairs, consider: aren't you lucky to have a home to repair? Worried about how to send your kids to college? Consider the alternatives! There's a flip side to almost all of these gripes we have.
Now, I know it's corny to say "Count your blessings", but the next time you want to gripe about your job, your home, your loved ones, your possessions, the country you live in, take a minute to consider the alternatives and see if you aren't glad to have such good things to complain about.
